Expanding Permanent Pathways In Medicare For Accountable Care

(9/30, Purva Rawal, Health Affairs Forefront) comments “...[T]he new Making Care Primary (MCP) Model launched in July 2024 provides a pathway for primary care practices—including small, independent practices—to support the delivery of advanced primary care. MCP is testing changes to primary care financing by helping practices move from fee-for-service to hybrid and population-based payments, ways to advances equity, with 41 percent of participants being federally qualified health centers, and seeks to support sustainability through alignment with Medicaid and commercial payers in participating states. While models such as these can help set the direction for the future, close alignment across CMS creates pathways to scale changes in the Medicare program, which are critical for lasting transformation that can meet the needs of different types of practices and geographic regions.” Full
