CER Collaborative Rolls Out New Resources to Aid Formulary Decision-Making

A newly published series of peer-reviewed articles developed by the CER Collaborative will help formulary decision-makers more effectively evaluate comparative effectiveness research (CER) studies for making coverage and reimbursement decisions.

A newly published series of peer-reviewed articles developed by the CER Collaborative will help formulary decision-makers more effectively evaluate comparative effectiveness research (CER) studies for making coverage and reimbursement decisions. The three articles, available in the April/May issue of Value in Health, were developed by CER Collaborative members the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and NPC. The articles provide a series of questionnaires to help guide decision-makers throughout the review process.

The CER Collaborative also has created an online toolkit to assist decision-makers as they assess and incorporate CER studies with other types of evidence for coverage and reimbursement decisions. The toolkit is made up of two components—one to aid in assessing individual studies and the other to aid in assessing multiple studies. Both components of the toolkit provide links to background information, “helper” questions, tangible examples, frequently asked questions and glossaries.

The CER Collaborative also will be discussing the toolkit at the AMCP’s 26th Annual Meeting and Expo on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 2:45 pm - 4:00 pm. Incorporating Comparative Effectiveness Research Knowledge and Tools into Practice: Three Perspectives will discuss how the tool is being used in pharmacy and therapeutics (P&T) committees, academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

The CER Collaborative also will be hosting a webinar on April 8 at 12 pm to explain how to use the tools they developed to create greater uniformity and transparency when evaluating evidence for coverage and health care decision-making. There is no charge to participate in the webinar—register online today to reserve your spot.
