The Impact of Patient Copay Accumulators and Maximizers on Out-of-Pocket Costs and Medication Persistence

Featured at #AMCP2024, this research explores the impact of Copay Accumulators and Maximizers on Patients

AUTHORS

James Motyka, PharmD; Rochelle Henderson, PhD

Overview

Copay adjustment programs (CAPs), which include copay accumulators and maximizers, prohibit the application of copayment assistance program dollars to count toward a patient’s out-of-pocket (OOP) deductible or OOP maximum. This study examines whether the resulting increase in patient costs from the use of CAPs leads patients to abandon treatments or disproportionately impacts specific patient populations.
