In recent years, public and private funding for comparative effectiveness research (CER) has dramatically increased, with the intention of providing useful information to help patients and providers make sound healthcare and treatment decisions.

In recent years, public and private funding for comparative effectiveness research (CER) has dramatically increased, with the intention of providing useful information to help patients and providers make sound healthcare and treatment decisions.

Although there are many academic programs that train researchers in how to conduct and apply CER, as well as programs that focus on understanding and developing health care policy, there are very few programs that bring these two areas together. In an effort to bridge this gap and consider the policy implications of CER, the National Pharmaceutical Council and the Department of Health Policy at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services are offering their first-ever post-doctoral Fellowship in the Policy Impact of Comparative Effectiveness Research. Upon completion of the program, the Fellow would understand the intended and unintended policy consequences of CER and have the capability to pose policy relevant research questions and conduct the work to address them.

The Fellow would be an employee of NPC and also would have an adjunct faculty appointment at the GWU School of Public Health and Health Services. The Fellow would be expected to conduct research and produce manuscripts for publications, and have the opportunity to audit classes at GW as appropriate. The Fellowship duration is two years with a start date of July 1, 2013.

Interested applicants must submit a cover letter or statement, resume, and a sample research paper to [email protected] or NPC/GWU Fellowship Search Committee, National Pharmaceutical Council, 1717 Pennsylvania, Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC, 20006. Review of applications will begin on January 14, 2013, and will continue until the position is filled.
