21st Century Cures Act Comment Letter from NPC

In 2016, the 21st Century Cures Act was passed into law with the aim of ensuring patients can access innovative, life-changing treatments. In response to a request for information issued on June 6, 2024 by Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01), a sponsor of the original legislation, and Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08), NPC submitted comments to inform the development of strategies within the Cures 2.0 Initiative that will sustain biopharmaceutical innovation and access to patients for years to come. In order to shape a healthcare landscape that is innovative, responsive, and patient-focused, NPC outlined the need to:

  1. Encourage the adoption of strategies that support access to innovative therapies
  2. Encourage Congress and other stakeholders to monitor the impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act
  3. Encourage better use of real-world evidence (RWE)
  4. Continue to build towards a patient-centered healthcare system, by incorporating the beneficiary and caregiver voice into healthcare decision-making whenever possible
