The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is hosting two workshops this week to solicit input from patients, researchers and other health care stakeholders on the topics the agency should fund, as well as on how PCORI can effectively and transparently determine which of those topics are of the highest priority.

On December 4, PCORI is holding a workshop titled, “What Should PCORI Study? A Call for Topics from Patients and Stakeholders.” The event will invite recommendations from a diverse group of health care stakeholders for specific topics to consider for funding and feedback on PCORI’s plans for engaging stakeholders in the research process. NPC President Dan Leonard will participate throughout the day and share NPC’s vision in one of the panel discussions, “Engagement and Patient-Centeredness: Sharing Perspectives with PCORI,” which begins at 8:45 am ET.

On December 5, PCORI will host a "Research Prioritization Methods Workshop.” During this event, research methodologists, patients and other stakeholders will share best practices for prioritizing research topics and help PCORI refine its own proposed prioritization process to see that it addresses the needs of patients and those who care for them. NPC Chief Science Officer Dr. Robert Dubois will take part in a panel discussion, “Experts Reactions to PCORI’s Proposed Research Prioritization Process,” at 12:15 pm ET.

Registration for these events is now closed, but a free, live webcast will be available to the public. Additional information can be found on PCORI’s website.
